Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — A man who shot and killed his son and seriously injured his wife took his own life in a Columbia room Wednesday night, but not before confessing to it all on Facebook Live.
Thursday afternoon Richland County Coroner Gary Watts confirmed that the body found in the Days Inn hotel room Wednesday night was Earl Valentine.
The discovery was the culmination of a two day man hunt that spanned three states.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says when authorities learned that Valentine was at the hotel they created a perimeter around the room.
According to Lott before the SWAT team could enter the room, they heard a single gunshot, then found Valentine’s body upon entry.
Watts confirmed that it was a self-inflicted gunshot to the head that claimed Valentine’s life.
Police say the 45-year-old was wanted in Norlina, North Carolina for shooting and killing his 15-year-old son who was trying to shield Keisha Valentine from the gun shots.
Keisha is hospitalized and in serious condition.
Before taking his own life Valentine confessed to the shootings on Facebook Live.
