USC In Eighth Heading Into Final Round

gamecock-golf-bag.jpegROCKY FACE, Ga. (USC SID) — South Carolina is tied for eighth after day two of the 2016 Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Gamecocks shot a 295 (+7) Saturday after shooting a 283 (-5) in the first round on Friday. For the second straight day, junior Keenan Huskey led Carolina after shooting a 71 (-1). Huskey, who was the only Gamecock to shoot under-par Saturday, currently sits tied for 12th individually at 4-under-par.

Virginia has a commanding lead over the rest of the field after shooting a 277 in round two. The Cavaliers sit at 23-under for the tournament after shooting a 276 (-12) in round one. Auburn, who was tied for the lead after day one, sits in second at 20-under after posting a 280 (-8) Saturday. Clemson sits third at 11-under after recording a day two score of 282 (-6). LSU (-9) and Florida (-7) round out the top-five in the team standings.

Individually, Ryan Benton of Auburn and Luke Schniederjans of Georgia Tech are tied for the lead at 9-under par. Sam Horsfield, who sat alone at the top of the leaderboard after a day one 65 (-7), is tied for fourth after shooting even par (72) Saturday.

Junior Ben Dietrich continued his steady play, shooting even par (72) in round two for the Gamecocks. He currently is tied for 23rd individually at 1-under par.

Huskey’s round of 71 today was the 21st of his career under-par. The Greenville, S.C. native shot three-under on the back nine today. He is six-under on the back nine for the tournament. Huskey fired six birdies today including four on the last five holes.

Sophomore Scott Stevens is tied for 56th after shooting a 77 (+5) in round two. Stevens shot a 38 (+2) on the front nine and a 39 (+3) on the back with one birdie.

Sophomore Ryan Stachler sits tied for 34th after tallying a 76 (+4) on Saturday. The Alpharetta, Ga. native is two-over for the tournament after recording a 37 (+1) on the front nine and a 39 (+3) on the back.

Sophomore Will Miles finished the day with a 76 (+4). He currently sits tied for 62nd at 7-over-par. The Hilton Head Island, S.C. native posted two birdies on his second round card.

Dietrich’s round of 72 was his 12th career round of par or better. The Bluffton, S.C. native carded three birdies on the day, including two on the back nine.

True freshman Jamie Wilson, who is playing in his first tournament as a Gamecock, tallied a 73 (+1) in round two and currently sits tied for 37th at three-over par. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C. native, who is playing individually this weekend, tacked on another eagle to his score card in day two after recording a three on the par-five 15th. He also had two birdies on the day.
