Haley Applauds House Vote to Un-Fund Guantanamo Transfers

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Gov. Nikki Haley is applauding a U.S. House vote to bar the federal government from spending money on any prisoner transfers from the Guantanamo Bay prison.
Haley said in a statement released to The Associated Press on Thursday that moving prisoners from the Cuba facility “is a risk the people of South Carolina aren’t willing to take.”
Haley has been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama’s plans to close the facility, particularly since a Navy brig near Charleston has been floated as a potential site to receive transferred prisoners.
In April, Haley traveled to Washington to testify before Congress, saying that the federal government had not given her any details of its plans.
The White House has already said Obama will veto the measure.
