Berkeley County Officer Involved Shooting

Berkely County, S.C (WOLO) — A man accused of shooting at Berkeley County Deputies Wednesday evening has now died.

According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran, deputies were redirecting traffic for Hurricane Matthew evacuations, when a driver allegedly stopped his truck, moved a traffic cone out of the roadway and sped off.

Deputies chased the driver until they reached a dead end road where authorities say the driver exited his car a second time and opened fire on deputies. Authorities say, those officers returned fire striking the suspect who was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Four Berkely County Sheriff’s Deputies are on administrative leave after authorities say they were in an officer involved shooting Wednesday evening.
