COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–Many hurricane victims could turn to generators in the coming days to help with power outages.
But improper storage can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, say experts. Some people may not recognize the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
First, get a carbon monoxide detector for your home. According to SC EMD, Remember it is not safe to use a generator indoors. The generator should be placed outside in a well-ventilated area. Be aware of possible carbon monoxide poisoning and fire if using alternative sources for electricity, heating or cooking.
