Daughter of Fatal Shooting Victim Speaks Out

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is hoping a reward will help put a suspected murderer behind bars.

Inside of apartment D6 on 7116 Tama Road is where authorities say they found the body of 60 year-old Sylvester Riley last month. His daughter Olivia says her family is still in shock.

Investigators and Riley’s family agree that his killer may be someone he knew. “We feel very strongly that this is someone he was probably an acquaintance with, someone he felt comfortable with that did this,” said Captain Scoot McDonald of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

“I think it was just a jealousy thing or maybe he got set up during the time he got murdered by somebody that knew him,” said Olivia Riley.

Although investigators have leads in this case, they’re still reaching out to the community; hoping that anyone with new information about what happened to Sylvester Riley will come forward. “We’re here today to ask for the community’s assistance. If anyone else may know something about this case, please come forth. Crimestoppers is offering a reward in reference to this case. You can be anonymous. We feel that someone out there in the community knows what happened, has heard someone talk about it, and can help us bring this case home and solve it for this family that’s grieving right now,” said McDonald.

“It would mean a lot to our family. It will also mean closure,” said Olivia Riley.
