Man, 34, Charged with Murder in Death of Missing Irmo Woman

Lloyd Shand/Provided

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A 34-year-old man is charged with murder in connection to the death of a woman who was reported missing in September.

According to authorities Lloyd Gareth Shand allegedly physically assaulted 51-year-old Candice Pierce resulting in her death.

The Aderley Oak Drive man was among the last to see Candice alive, authorities say.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Shand and Pierce were acquaintances.

Authorities say they found the victim’s remains on November 19 in the  200 block of Twin Gate Road thanks to a tip from a citizen who was working to clear off some land in the area.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the remains through dental records, officials say.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Irmo Police Department worked together on the case.

Shand has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
