Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The countdown to Christmas is on and the Columbia Police Department is going the extra mile to make sure holiday shoppers know how to protect themselves.

Police shared some tips about protecting goodies from thieves this holiday season.

Officer Christopher Morris said one way to avoid being a target for holiday crime is shopping with a buddy.

Here are a few other tips officers suggest to ensure safe holiday shopping:
– Always park your car in well-lit areas
– Lock your doors and double check your car doors to ensure they are locked
– Do not leave purchased items in plain view
– Do not carry large sums of cash while shopping
– Have your keys ready while you are leaving
