On Monday, in the final week of build up to the SCHSL 5A Title game. Dutch Fork head coach Tom Knotts told ABC Columbia Sports that all year long, his team “has done everything I’ve asked of them. I’m asking them to win a state championship, so I believe they’ll come through.”

Five days later, his Silver Foxes proved him right.

Freshman running back Ron Hoff ran for a pair of touchdowns while also hauling in a 62 yard TD catch as Dutch Fork (15-0) topped Boiling Springs (13-2) 28-21 at Williams-Brice Stadium in the 5A Championship, the final high school football game played in the Palmetto State in 2016.

With just over a minute left in the ballgame and the Silver Foxes up by seven, the Bulldogs were faced with a 4th and 2 on their own 39 yard line. Their run up the middle was stopped short of the first down marker, turning the ball over to DF for good.

It’s the Irmo school’s second ever state crown (winning previously in 2013), each coming under Knotts, now having made it to the state finals four of the last five years. The head coach previously won seven championships in North Carolina at Independence High in Charlotte. The 2016 Silver Foxes are the first team in their program history to finish a regular season, and now an entire season undefeated.
