Millions Expected To Travel This Holiday Season

Over One Million Expected to Travel in South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– The holidays are here and busier than ever. This year, AAA expects over 103 Americans to travel between December 23rd and January 2nd.  1.4 million South Carolinians are expected to travel this season. Experts say lower gas prices may be behind the uptick.

Whether you are driving or flying this holiday season, experts say it’s best to always plan ahead.

“Around any holiday we see a major influx of traffic on the roadway and with an influx of traffic we see an influx of congestion as well as crashes so be mindful of that,” said Lance Corporal  David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. “If you’re going to be traveling a little distance, go ahead an pack your patience and make sure you’re prepared.”

“We expect full flights. These will be busier times so come to the airport an hour and a half or two hours before your flight. Give yourself plenty of time,” said Anthony Gilmer of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
