SC Lawmaker Accused of Domestic Violence

COLUMBIA, SC (AP)– Authorities say South Carolina Rep. Chris Corley attacked his wife while their kids were in their Graniteville home.

Corley was arrested early Tuesday and charged with first-degree domestic violence.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office report says the 36-year-old Republican threatened to kill his wife and punched her causing her to bleed, then pointed a gun at her before saying he was going to kill himself.

The report says Corley told an officer his wife tried to punch him after accusing him of cheating and scratched his forehead.

Corley remained in jail Tuesday morning. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer and no one answered his phone.

Corley faces up to 10 years in prison on the domestic violence charge and five years on a felony pointing a weapon charge.
