Sumter Woman Arrested After Cashing Fake Checks

SUMTER, SC (WOLO)-A woman wanted on multiple charges after cashing fake payroll checks at local businesses has been arrested.

Officers with the Sumter Police Department, assisted by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, located and arrested Susie Loretta Oaks Thomas, 44, of Sumter, on Thursday.

Thomas was charged with 14 counts of forgery in an amount less than $10,000 related to checks that she cashed, as well as checks she provided to others to cash. She was booked in at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, where she remains pending a $140,000 bond.

Thomas is a suspect in counterfeit check activities throughout the state. In addition to the Sumter Police Department, 10 other law enforcement agencies are expected to serve Thomas with arrest warrants related to the cashing of counterfeit checks.

An investigation is continuing.
