When Dabo Swinney was named interim head coach of Clemson in the middle of the 2008 season, he had never previously led a program. He had never been a coordinator. He was the Tigers’ wide receivers coach who was doubted by some from the very start if his tenure.

Eight years later, he’s a national champion and the architect of a program that’s re-writing school record books.

As close to 70,00 Clemson fans celebrated the Tigers’ title on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, coach Swinney took the time to remember the few individuals who believed in his vision and his mission all along.
