MLK Events Happening in the Midlands

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- If you missed out on some of the Martin Luther King Jr. events happening over the weekend, on Monday the city and other local organizations are hosting MLK events on Monday.

The city of Columbia is hosting its 29th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Community Center located at 2300 Greene Street on Monday. The event starts at 4:00 p.m.

The City of Columbia and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation announced that Claflin University President Dr. Henry Tisdale will be the keynote speaker. Tisdale has served as the university’s president since 1994.

A Wreath Laying Ceremony commemorating the historic marker honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held at 3:06 p.m. at the corner of Harden and Greene street.

Another event happening Monday is the 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Keeping the Legacy Alive” Breakfast, hosted by the Columbia Urban League. The event kicks off at 8:00 a.m at the Brookland Banquet and Conference Center located at 1066 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.

This year’s theme is “Infinite Hope.”

If you want a more active MLK event, Zumba instructors from across the city are uniting again to celebrate Martin Luther King Day with the third Annual “Dancing the Dream” free Zumba® class, 10 a.m. until noon, Monday, at Jewish Community Center, 306 Flora Dr, Columbia, South Carolina, 29223.

The community is invited to celebrate diversity by dancing at this free event.
