Benedict Sweeps SIAC Women’s Basketball Player Of Week Honors

ATLANTA (Benedict SID) – Benedict College swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Weekly honors released on Tuesday by the league office. Destiny Betts was named Player of the Week along with teammate Simone Roberts who was selected as the Newcomer of the Week.

Betts recorded 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in a 74-53 win over Fort Valley State on Jan. 21. The 6-2 senior forward from Halifax, Va. led all players in steals with seven. Betts also added two assists and a block in the win. The Tigers (12-7 overall, 8-1 SIAC) are currently on a six-game winning streak.

Roberts, a 5-9 junior guard from Brooklyn, N.Y. scored 13 points against the Wildcats where she was 5-of-7 from the field. She finished with five steals, three rebounds, and three assists in Benedict’s lone game of the week. Benedict will host Clark Atlanta on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
