Lexington County Chili Cook-Off to Benefit Local Charities

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)- Thousands came out to the Lexington County annual Chili Cook Off  on Sunday.

Residents in Lexington braved the cold to put their cooking skills to the test.

Event goers had an opportunity to sample a variety of chilies and listen to live music.

This year organizer’s say the competition brought in a record breaking audience and competitors.

“I think what it’s showing is that Lexington County and Lexington are establishing their own identity,” Co-founder of the Lexington County Chili Cook Off, Bill Shanahan said. “We have our own hometown baseball team, hometown baseball stadium, we have our new beautiful Ice House Amphitheater.
A lot of exciting things are happening in the town of Lexington and all across Lexington County.”

This year Shanahan said the audience doubled to 1,000 attendees.

Proceeds from the event benefit local charities.
