Betts, White Earn SIAC Player Of The Week Honors

ATLANTA (Benedict) – For the second consecutive week, Benedict swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Weekly honors with Destiny Betts being named Player of the Week along with teammate Shanaissa White who earned the Newcomer of the Week honor, announced on Tuesday by the conference office.

Betts earned the honor for the second straight week and helped Benedict (13-7 overall, 9-1 SIAC) extend its winning streak to seven with a pair of victories. Betts, a 6-2 senior forward from Halifax, Va., led all players in scoring (23) and rebounding (20) in an 88-68 win over Clark Atlanta on Jan. 28. She was 9-of-15 (60%) from the field. Betts also added two assists and two steals in the win. Earlier in the week Benedict defeated Albany State, 66-57 on the road.

White, a 5-11 freshman forward from St. Matthews, S.C., scored 12 points against Clark Atlanta. She also recorded six rebounds, five steals, an assist, and a block.

Benedict hosts Claflin Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
