Shots Fired Down Quiet Road Prompt Deputy Investigation

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has been paying special attention to Goldie Road near Leesville.

“Based on the information that we’ve been able to gather from citizens here that live along this stretch of road, someone has been driving by firing multiple shots randomly at people standing in their yards and towards some of the homes here,” said Captain Adam Myrick.

Residents tell deputies that the shootings have occurred three times beginning last Wednesday. Each incident happening at night, making it hard for citizens to identify a suspect or car.

“We’ve gotten different types of cars for each of the events so we don’t have any consistency on that. That’s understandable because it’s dark, it’s also a very stressful situation if you’re standing there in your yard or right beside your home and all of a sudden you’re fired upon,” said Myrick.

Neighbors said these events have terrified their tight-knit community, causing them to change their nightly activities.

“My husband and my brother, they have actually started sitting outside with their guns because of this. We have small children to protect and that kind of thing is really dangerous and I’m scared that it’s going to hit one of my children,” said Angel Southern of Goldie Road.

Deputies hope to find the shooters soon but they need your help to do so. If you have information about these incidents, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Information leading to an arrest can earn you up to $1,000.
