Benedict’s Morris Named SIAC Player Of The Week
ATLANTA (Benedict) – Benedict’s Brandon Morris was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Jade Patrick (Lane) was selected as the Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.
Morris averaged 30.5 points and 12 rebounds per game as the Tigers (12-9 overall, 9-3 SIAC) spilt a pair of games last week. The 6-8 junior forward from Lithonia, Ga. led all players in scoring (25) and rebounds (11) in a 56-51 loss to Claflin on Jan. 31. Benedict responded with a 120-117 quadruple overtime win at Morehouse on Feb. 2. Morris scored a career-high 36 points and led the Tigers with 13 rebounds. He finished the week with two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Benedict visits Paine on Feb. 6 for a SIAC game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Patrick, a 6-3 junior guard from Nashville, Tenn. helped the Dragons (13-8, 10-2) to their sixth straight win with a pair of victories last week. He scored 12 points and added seven rebounds to lift Lane to an 88-87 overtime win against Kentucky State (Jan. 31). In an 80-73 win over Central State, Patrick finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. He finished the week with three assists and three steals. Lane returns to action on Feb. 8 when it hosts Central State at 7:30 p.m.
