This will be the second time the Bulldogs embarked on a three-game MEAC road swing this season. Earlier this season the games between Hampton and Norfolk were postponed due to bad weather, which forced several games to be reschedule across the league.
SC State had early road success posting impressive victories over Hampton (68-66) and Howard (77-68) before dropping a tough defeat to Maryland Eastern Shore (92-69).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: All-MEAC guard and Boxtorow All-American Eric Eaves is the leader for the Bulldogs with 16.2 points per game. SC State also gets scoring help from junior forward Tashombe Riley (11.0 points), senior guard Greg Mortimer (9.5) and junior guard James Richardson (9.2). Riley leads the team in rebounding at 5.0 per game.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES: The top-ranked NCCU Eagles (17-6 overall, 8-1 in the MEAC) are on an eight game MEAC winning streak. The Eagles are led by All-MEAC performer Patrick Cole with 19.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Dajuan Graf is second with 14.6 ppg and 3.6 rpg. Rashaun Madison and Kyle Benton are averaging a little over 9.2 points per contest, while Benton is the leader in boards with a team-high 8.0.
BULLDOG NOTE: Ed Stephens scored his 1,000th career point in an 18-point performance against Hampton on Monday night. Stephens is the first player to eclipse the 1000-point scoring mark since four-year starting point guard Khalif Toombs back in 2012-13. Eaves needs 29 points to join his teammate, he has already scored 971 in just two seasons with the Bulldogs.
Next up South Carolina State will remain in the tobacco state to take on MEAC rival North Carolina A&T on Monday (Feb. 13) in a pivotal league showdown beginning at 7;30 p.m. in Greensboro, NC, before heading to Virginia to take on the Spartans of Norfolk State on Wednesday (Feb. 15) in an 8 p.m. start and Echols Arena.
