Coroner Identifies Victim Killed in Shooting Outside Waffle House in Columbia

COLUMBIA,S.C. (WOLO)- The Richland County Coroner has identified the man that was shot and killed outside of a local restaurant Sunday Morning.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Wayne A. Bell, 28, of  Columbia, SC was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died.

An autopsy indicated that Mr. Bell died from a gunshot wound to the lower torso.

Columbia Police have arrested and charged a man in connection to the deadly shooting.

Police said Eric Nixon,35, is being charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Possession of a Pistol by Unlawful Person. He was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Nixon is accused of shooting and killing the male victim after an argument at 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Waffle House located on 205 Stoneridge Drive.

According to witnesses, Nixon was arguing with another person and when the victim tried to intervene, and he was shot. The victim was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Nixon was located and arrested a short time later at a Jacob Road home with the assistance of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
