Man Caught on Camera Stealing Case of Lotto Tickets

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C (WOLO)-The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is asking for your help after a man was caught on surveillance camera stealing a case load of scratch off lottery tickets and attempted to cash in some the next day.
The surveillance video captures the suspect breaking into the D & M Food store in the 4200 block of Fish Hatchery Road.  The suspect breaks in through the front door and snatches a case load of lotto tickets from the front counter, he then tosses the tickets into the back of his truck.
This lotto thief has been on the run since December.

“We’ve been working with other Law enforcement agencies and then again following up on leads to try and to find out who he is,” Captain Adam Myrick said. “We don’t know who he is so that’s why we shared the information with the public, hoping that we can get a tip that will send us down the path of identifying this person and then moving forward in our investigation.”

What was also captured on video was the suspect trying to cash in his stolen lottery tickets at another business.
“We have some information that indicates that an individual was trying to cash some of those tickets in Clarendon County the next day,” Myrick said.
What the burglar may not have known is that lotto tickets work like credit cards.
“When lotto tickets are reported stolen they have no value at that point,” Myrick said.
Myrick also said the tickets are not redeemable, and if the suspect is captured he faces burglary charges and others could be coming.
