Black History Moment

Jonas Thomas Kennedy

Today we celebrate Jonas Thomas Kennedy in our Black History Moment.

Kennedy is a Bennetsville native who turned his love of farming into his life work.

Kennedy was named farmer of the year in 1977 for his great ability to raise turkey’s.

Former president Lyndon B. Johnson invited Kennedy to take part in the National Farm Policy Conference.

He also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Claflin University and Africa University in Zimbabwe.

All month long we celebrate black South Carolinian’s who have had a profound impact on the state and the world around them.
