Coastal Basketball Hosts Final Regular Season Home Games
CONWAY (CCU) – The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team will be home to host Louisiana and Louisiana Monroe in its final home regular season games.
The action gets underway Saturday, Feb. 25, when the Chanticleers welcome Louisiana to Conway for a 4:30 p.m. Tip. The final game will be Monday, Feb. 27 against Louisiana Monroe at 7 p.m.
The Chanticleers enter the weekend 14-14 overall and 9-6 in the Sun Belt. CCU is presently in fifth place in the conference, but only one game out of third, 1.5 games out of second and 2.5 games out of first, with three regular season games left to play.
The top four teams in the conference will receive a first-round bye at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which begins March 8 in New Orleans, so the Chants still have a lot to play for.
CCU enters the game coming off a tough road trip in Alabama which saw them fall at Troy (87-78) and pick up an overtime win at South Alabama (81-77) in a game which saw them trail by as many as 16 points, and 14 at halftime.
Jaylen Shaw and Elijah Wilson lead the Chants in scoring with each averaging 13.6 points per game. Colton Ray-St Cyr continues to play lights out over the last half of the season and now has his average up to 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He is coming off his fifth double-double of the season in the win over South Alabama where he scored 15 points and had a career-high 16 rebounds.
Several games ago, the Chants went to a four-guard starting five, which moved Demario Beck into the post position. He continues to get better playing down low and that showed in the last game where he delivered his sixth double-double of the year with 18 points and 14 rebounds at South Alabama.
Beck continues to be one of the top rebounders in the conference averaging 8.2 boards per game to go along with his 9.7 scoring average.
The Chants defense will have its hands full with the Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday afternoon. Louisiana leads the Sun Belt in scoring averaging 82.1 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 35 percent on its three point field goals and will come into Conway on a two-game winning streak.
Louisiana (16-11, 6-8 Sun Belt) has four players averaging in double figures to help in scoring all of those points led by Frank Bartley’s 15.6 points per game. Jay Wright is right behind him averaging 15.4 and Justin Miller averages 10.9.
The Ragin’ Cajuns may have the best all-around player in the conference in Bryce Washington. The junior is the lone Sun Belt player to average a double-double. He scores at a 13.7 points per game average and leads the conference in rebounding averaging 11.3 per outing. He is the team’s leader in blocked shots with 21.
Monday’s outing with Louisiana Monroe will be senior night as CCU’s seniors will be honored before the game. Michel Enanga, Shivaughn Wiggins, Colton Ray-St Cyr and Elijah Wilson will be making their final appearance in a regular season home game for the Chanticleers.
