Richland County Legislators Recommend Six New Recreation Commissioners
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- Nearly a year after legislators called for the suspension of the Richland County Recreation Commission, county delegates recommended six new commissioners for the agency.
“I’m very excited about those we’ve recommended. They come from diverse areas geographically in the county, there’s diversity in their backgrounds and experience, and they will all bring a lot to the new commission,” said legislative delegation chairman Representative James Smith.
Thomas Clark is the only commissioner remaining on the board after six other commissioners either stepped down or were removed from their positions following allegations of nepotism, wrongful termination, and sexual harassment.
Retired federal employee Donzetta Lindsay is one of the new faces selected by the delegation. She says the previous issues surrounding the commission did not deter her from applying.
Jermaine Johnson was also recommended by county legislators. The non-profit CEO and former College of Charleston basketball player says late Representative Joe Neal recommended that he apply and he is ready to make him proud.
