Islamic Center of Columbia Host ‘A Day of Gratitude’
COLUMBIA,SC (WOLO)- More than a dozen Midlands residents paid a visit to the Islamic Center of Columbia Saturday for a day of gratitude.
The Muslim community of South Carolina invited the public to learn more about their culture by hosting a Share Islam Day event.
Event organizers say, with so much misrepresentation of their community they decided to host an informal event.
“Every child has the ability to do incredible things,” Mayor Steve Benjamin said. “Incredible things here in this city and around this country. But they can only do that if we foster and environment where they can live up to their full potential, and that’s what today is about. We’re all in this together, we’re embracing our Muslim neighbors, we’re thanking them for the wonderful contributions that they make to make Columbia great and make this country great.”
Attendees enjoyed food, free information about Islam, exhibits, and they went home with a Quar’an.
