SC State Faces FAMU in MEAC Tournament
NORFOLK, VA (SC State) – South Carolina State’s Tuesday Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament opener against Florida A&M will be televised live by ESPN3. The seventh-seeded Bulldogs and the Rattlers, seeded 10th, will meet at 6 p.m. in the second men’s contest of the day.
Veteran broadcaster Charlie Neal will call the play-by-play, with former SC State head coach Cy Alexander as the analyst. Alexander spent 16 years as Bulldog head coach and served head coaching stints at Tennessee State and North Carolina A&T, as well as an assistant at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
The two teams last met in the regular season home finale in Orangeburg (Feb. 25) with the Bulldogs taking an 75-64 victory over the Rattlers. Senior’s Eric Eaves finished with a game-high 22 points and six rebounds and Greg Mortimer added 20 in the win.
A win by the Bulldogs will send Coach Murray Garvin‘s team to Wednesday’s quarterfinals against Norfolk State, the number two seed, at 8 p.m.
The 2017 MEAC Basketball Tournament will conclude on Saturday, March 11 with the men’s and women’s championship games. The women’s game will begin one hour after the end of the men’s game and will be tape-delayed on ESPNU. It will air the following day, Sunday, March 12, at 11 a.m.
