The Columbia Fireflies begin year two Thursday night, hosting the Augusta GreenJackets, but Tim Tebow isn’t the only Firefly making his pro debut.
Former Gamecock Gene Cone, who played for USC from 2014 to 2016 and broke the single-season school hit-streak with 31 consecutive games with a hit, is expected to get the start in right field (Tebow will play left).
Cone, a Spring Valley High School product, has now played every level of baseball in Columbia, which is exciting for the outfielder. But he might be more excited to live at home and save money.
