Wesley Bryan made history in the Lowcountry Sunday, as the Midlands native became the first South Carolinian to ever win the only PGA event in the Palmetto State – the RBC Heritage.
More importantly, it’s the first title of the Tour rookie’s career.
The Dutch Fork and Carolina alum shot a 67 (-4) in his final round at Harbor Town in Hilton Head Island, finishing the weekend at 13 under par, one stroke ahead of Luke Donald (-12) in second. Bryan pocketed $1.17 million to place in his brand new plaid jacket, both earned for finishing on top of the leaderboard.
As the former Silver Fox and Gamecock started to realize late Sunday afternoon he was in position to win, Bryan admitted he started to feel some nerves. But a bogey-free back nine led him to victory and qualifies him to make his debut at The Masters in 2018.
As for Bryan’s post-win celebration, he and his wife made a late-night Taco Bell run to cap off a historic day.
