A five-run eighth inning gave the Gamecocks (22-13, 8-7 SEC) a 6-1 victory, avoiding a sweep in their series finale against Mississippi State on Sunday.

Carlos Cortes hit his third home run in two games.

Adam Hill only allowed one run in six innings pitched. Josh Reagan (4-1) recorded the win in two scoreless innings in relief. Closer Tyler Johnson ended the ninth, pitching at home for the first time in over a month (forearm stiffness).

Chad Holbrook’s team ended their three-game losing streak. USC returns to Founders Park Tuesday, hosting Davidson at 7:00 p.m.
