Total Solar Eclipse in the Capital City

Columbia, SC. (WOLO) — Mark August 21st of this year on your calendars because the Capital City is about to get a glimpse of something many never get the chance to see in their lifetime.

We’re talking about a Total Solar Eclipse, where the moon will completely cover the sun, leaving the entire State in complete darkness for more than 2 minutes.  Even better, the best seat in the house is right here in Columbia where the center line of totality is set to appear at 2:41PM.

Kelly Barbrey, the VP of Sales and Marketing for Experience Columbia SC says Columbia has been listed as one of the top ten places in the Nation to watch it. That alone, has lots of heads turning, and even more visitors slated to travel to South Carolina for a sight that hasn’t been seen since 1918, and won’t be seen again until 2078.

Barbrey says they anticipate up to one million people making their way to the Palmetto State to get the perfect view and there are a host of events being held for you to enjoy the entire weekend, without being left in the “dark”.
