Benedict Faces Top-Ranked West Florida In NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Benedict) – The Benedict College men’s tennis team will take on the nation’s top-ranked team and three-time national champion West Florida in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.
The Tigers, 17-8 overall, received the eighth seed in the South Region tournament, and will take on the region tournament host West Florida, 26-1, on Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
The winner will face the winner between a pair of Sunshine State Conference teams, fourth-seed Lynn and fifth-seed St. Leo, on Sunday.
Benedict won the SIAC championship for the third year in a row. Nathaniel Pinkney was named the league’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row. He went 11-10 overall at No. 1 singles, but was unbeaten in singles and doubles in conference play. He will go against West Florida’s Alex Peyrot, the nation’s third-ranked singles player.
Quentin Eloise was also named SIAC All-Conference for the second straight year, after being named SIAC Freshman of the Year in 2016. He went 16-8 overall and 10-1 in conference play at No. 2 singles. He will go up against West Florida’s Gabriel Dias, ranked 20th in the country. The doubles team of Pedro Dumont and Alex Peyrot are ranked No. 1 in the nation in doubles.
