Decision Announced Wednesday in Case of Man Allegedly Shot 19 Times by Sumter Police

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) – The Third Circuit Solicitor will release the findings Wednesday afternoon of the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened in Sumter in December 2016.
Solicitor Ernest A. Finney III will announce his decision regarding the fatal use of force that was used by Sumter Police Department officers against Waltki Williams.
In March, Williams’ family filed suit against the department, claiming his wrongful death after they say he was shot by officers 19 times.
The announcement will take place at 2 p.m. at the Sumter County Judicial Center.
The shooting happened back in December when police were chasing Williams after getting reports that he was threatening his ex-girlfriend outside the Sumter mall. The chase ended when Williams crashed into two cars a few blocks down. Police say after he got out on foot, there was a brief struggle and then an exchange of gunfire.Williams’ family say he was unarmed.
