Coastal Carolina Announces Soccer Schedule
CONWAY, S.C. (CCU) – Coastal Carolina men’s soccer coach Shaun Docking announced his 2017 schedule as the Chanticleers begin their second season in the Sun Belt Conference and look to defend their 2016 Sun Belt Title.
The 2017 season will see the Chants play 17 regular-season matches with nine of those being played at the CSU Soccer Stadium.
The challenging schedule starts with three exhibition games beginning with an Aug. 13 match at North Carolina, a 2016 NCAA National Championship Semifinalist. The exhibition schedule continues with a match Aug. 15 at another 2016 NCAA tournament program, Clemson.
The Chants final tune up leading into the 2017 regular season will be a home exhibition against Marshall played Aug. 19.
The regular season will begin on the road for CCU with matches at George Mason (Aug. 25) and at Georgetown (Aug. 28). CCU will return home for its next three opponents; UNC Greensboro (Sept. 1), Charlotte (Sept. 5) and a return match against Radford (Sept. 9). CCU beat Radford last season in the opening round of the NCAA Championship.
CCU will jump into Sun Belt Conference action on the road with a Sept. 16 showdown at Georgia Southern.
Two home matches will start a four-match non-conference portion of the schedule with College of Charleston coming to town on Sept. 20 followed by Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 24.
Sept. 30 will see the Chants travel to Columbia to face in-state rival South Carolina, a 2016 NCAA Championship participant. Following that game CCU will return home to face UNC Wilmington on Oct. 3 and jump back into conference action hosting Hartwick Oct. 8.
The Chants will hit the road in four of its final six matches of the season, starting with an Oct. 14 date at Old Dominion. CCU will then face ACC-power and 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Maryland on Oct. 20.
The final two home matches of the season start with William & Mary visiting Conway Oct. 24 and SBC member Appalachian State hitting the CSU Soccer Field Oct. 28.
Nov. 1 will have CCU visiting Howard and the final regular-season match of the season comes Nov. 4 at Georgia State.
This season the Chanticleers will host the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which will run Nov. 9-12.
The 2017 season will have CCU looking for its 15 NCAA Tournament bid and its 14th conference regular season and conference tournament championships.
