Fireflies Host Lakewood Tonight

AP
UMBRELLA: Thursday’s game was postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled on May 11 in Salisbury, MD. Columbia and Delmarva will play a doubleheader starting at 6:05 p.m. – two seven inning games.
ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies tallied nine hits on Wednesday, the same as their opponent, but dropped the second game of the series to the Delmarva Shorebirds, 10-3. Ali Sanchez and Michael Paez notched multi-hit games.
PAEZ PERFORMING: Columbia’s infielder is on a six-game hit streak and has hit .360 (9-for-25) during that span. Here’s a look at Paez’s last six:
- Paez, April 26-May 3: .360, 3 R, 3 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI
PAEZ PERFORMING, PART II: The former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer is third in the league with 20 RBIs. He’s also tied for fourth in the SAL with 12 extra-base hits.
JOIN THE CLUB: Right-hander Jordan Humphreys and outfielder Jose Medina both entered the Mets top-30 prospect list. Columbia’s roster now features 10 (see bottom right) of New York’s most coveted prospects, as ranked by MLB.com and Baseball America. Humphreys is one of just four pitchers in all of professional baseball with five wins (Houston’s Dallas Keuchel, Minnesota’s Ervin Santana and AAA Tacoma’s Christian Bergman). The starter is just 20 years old but has posted a 1.71 ERA in five outings. Medina on the other hand is hitting .258 in 18 games this year. Among qualified batters, that’s third-best on the team – impressive considering his age (20).
