Man Arrested in Murder of Bennettsville Woman, Deputies Still Searching For Missing Child

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WPDE)- Marlboro County deputies, Bennettsville police, DNR, SLED and the FBI gathered at Bennettsville Intermediate School Sunday afternoon to start searching for eight-year-old Iyana Lowery.

They have four wheelers and some boats.

Lowery was discovered missing after her mother Ella Lowery, 36, was found dead in her home on Craig Circle in Bennettsville on Friday morning.

Dwayne Jermaine Bright, 36, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in the death of Ella Lowery, according to Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon.

Lemon said Bright was acquaintances with Lowery.

He added Bright hasn’t said anything about the child.

Lemon believes the little girl was with her mother when her mother was killed.

He said search crews will be out looking for any signs of the missing child.

The MCSO, SLED and FBI worked all day again on Saturday and into Sunday morning to search more areas including a home in Bennettsville. Other law enforcement agencies are scheduled to assist on Sunday with the investigation and the continued search for Iyana.

“We are working as hard as we possibly can to bring a resolution to this case and find Iyana. All agencies are working 20 hour days to accomplish this. We have expertise from all around the United States collaborating to bring Iyana home. If anyone has any information, please help us and call the numbers listed above,” said Lemon.

Anyone with information can call the MCSO at 843-479-5605, 911 or 1-888-Crime SC.
