Former Gamecock McIlwain Transferring to Cal
Former Gamecock two-sport athlete Brandon McIlwain announced on Twitter Saturday that he’s continuing his collegiate career at the University of California, Berkley.
The former Carolina quarterback and outfielder announced back in March that he would transfer from Carolina. He made the move public just weeks into the baseball season, after lacking consistent playing time in Chad Holbrook’s lineups. The Newton, Pa. native went 1-2 as a starter for Will Muschamp’s team before being passed on the depth chart by Jake Bentley in the fall.
From the appearance of his tweet, McIlwain looks to be playing both football and baseball for the Golden Bears in the Pac-12. He will have to sit out a season in each sport after switching schools due to NCAA transfer rules.
