Tornado Touches Down in Saluda, National Weather Service Officials Confirm

SALUDA, S.C. (AP) – The National Weather Service in South Carolina confirmed a tornado touched down west of Saluda.
The weather service office in Columbia said on its Twitter page that around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday that a tornado was “on the ground producing damage.”
Forecasters also said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles (12.87 kilometers) northeast of Prosperity, or 12 miles (19.31 kilometers) east of Newberry. This location was mile marker 82 on Interstate 26.
The storm was moving northeast at 40 mph.
There was no immediate word on injuries.
