Report: Gamecocks Opening 2017-18 at Wofford’s New Home
CBS Sports and FanRag Sports college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein stated Saturday that Carolina will play their season debut in the upstate this fall, helping Wofford open their brand-new arena as part of a multi-year agreement between the schools.
The Gamecocks and Terriers will kick off 2017-18 by christening Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg. The Carolina Panthers owner and Wofford alum helped fund the project to house the Southern Conference program.
The 3,400 seat facility will replace Benjamin Johnson Arena on campus.
The series between USC and Wofford is a two-for-one deal; the garnet and black will host a second matchup between the pair of in-state programs st a later date. Their fall meeting will be the first time Frank Martin’s squad takes the floor since they made their run to the 2017 Final Four in Arizona this past April.
