Man Arrested After Leading Deputies on Car, Foot Chase
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WOLO)- A high speed chase turned into a foot pursuit after a man wrecked his car Friday night.
The chase happened at 9:15pm in the intersection of River and Lancaster Drives.
According to Richland County Deputies Gavin Rashad Williams,30, was driving 75mph in a 40mph area on River Drive and made a U-turn and sped away in order to evade deputies.
Deputies also say they observed a beer can being thrown out of the window by the Williams whose reckless driving caused him to collide head-on with the driver of a Honda Accord .
Following the collision, Williams fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. Williams vehicle caught fire, a passenger in Williams vehicle was removed/detained until the scene was brought under control. Williams, his passenger, and the innocent victim involved in the collision were transported by EMS to an area hospital.
Williams was arrested and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center charged with DUI 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Open Container violation, as well as Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Sirens.
