Jordan Montgomery Sent Down to AAA by Yankees

(WOLO) – The New York Yankees have optioned former Gamecocks pitcher Jordan Montgomery to their Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton-Wilks Barre RailRiders.

The Sumter native has made 21 starts during his rookie season in the big leagues, going 7-6 with a 4.05 ERA. He leads all first-year pitchers with 111 strikeouts.

The Yankees made deals at the trade deadline to acquire a pair of starters: former All-Star Sonny Gray from Oakland and Jamie Garcia from Minnesota. Rather than move to a six-man rotation, the club decided to send Montgomery back down to the minors following their 8-1 win over Cleveland Sunday.

Jordan was a fourth-round selection by NYY in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Carolina. He made his MLB debut back on April 12, 2017. He’s thrown 115.2 innings and there’s yet to be any word from the Yankees as to if the rookie is on an innings limit.
