COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Mike White isn’t going to sugarcoat anything for his Benedict Tigers.

“They know I don’t have any bubble gum, I don’t have any peppermints. I am not that kind of guy so I tell it like it is.”

Entering his third season as the school’s head football coach, White is looking to continue to build up the program he’s been shaping towards success. In 2015, his first campaign in the Midlands, the Tigers finished 0-10. The squad improved it’s mark in 2016, jumping to 5-6.

Benedict enters the fall with 10 players selected to the preseason All-SIAC conference teams, seven of which were first-team selections.

“I do feel good where they are,” said White at the Tigers’ first fall practice Monday. “They have come, they have studied film. They’ve done the work, they’ve put the work in and now they’re ready to see it all pay off.”

Benedict opens the 2017 campaign on September 2, hosting Livingstone in the 16th annual Palmetto Capital City Classic at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
