COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Will Muschamp will always remember Richland Northeast grad T.J. Brunson.

In December 2015, Brunson was the very first recruit Muschamp ever visited after taking over as Carolina’s head coach.

Fastforward two years later, and the Columbia product is set to make his very first start at middle linebacker when the Gamecocks face NC State in Charlotte on Sept. 2.

“It’s very important to T.J. to play well. He’s extremely bright and he can run and hit,” said Muschamp.

Brunson is pretty psyched too. But for different reasons.

“Growing up right down the street from Williams-Brice, and seeing all these great players… now to be in company with them is a great feeling,” said Brunson.

As the middle linebacker, Brunson will call the plays for the Gamecocks this season.
