Fireflies drop third-straight to Crawdads, Winningham and Cone return

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Hickory earned their third-straight road win over Columbia Saturday night, defeating the Fireflies 3-1.

Leading 1-0 after one, Brendon Davis homered off Martin Anderson, doubling the Crawdads lead to 2-0.

Hickory scored a single run in each of the first three innings to power themselves to a win and put themselves in position for a sweep Sunday in the 5:05 p.m. finale with the Fireflies.

The host’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer by Jay Jabs, his seventh of the season.

Earlier Saturday, the team announced that both SAL All-Star  1B Dash Winningham and former Gamecock OF Gene Cone were each being activated from the disabled list. Winningham had been on the shelf since July 28. Cone last played on July 14. Each recorded a hit in their first game back with the ball club.
