Gamecocks Safety to miss 2017 season
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Gamecocks freshman safety Jaylin Dickerson will be out for the entirety of the 2017 season due to injury, head coach Will Muschamp announced Saturday.
The three-star prospect from Southern Pines, N.C. will have surgery on his shoulder this Wednesday.
“He will be aerobic training within three weeks, he will be lifting weights within eight weeks,” said Muschamp following Carolina’s first scrimmage of fall camp. He’ll be cleared in January and be ready for spring practice.”
Dickerson enrolled early at USC and took part in spring practice, playing with both the first and second team in the Garnet and Black game. He registered 5.5 tackles in the exhibition, second most for the day in April.
“I hurt for Jaylin,” Muschamp added. “He had a wonderful spring and certainly was going to be a contributor to our football team this year. It hurts us – especially in a place where we need some depth and a good football player. And that’s what he is. But I’m excited about his future as a Gamecock.”
