WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOLO) –
Nearly 48 hours after Saturday’s violent outbreak in Charlottesville, Virginia, President Trump finally denounced those responsible.
On Monday, President Trump condemned the hate groups that led a hate filled rally that left 3 people dead by name.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence.” President Trump said. “It has no place in America. Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.”
On Saturday, President Trump made no mention of the KKK or white supremacists. Instead he offered a rebuke saying “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides.”
Tuesday morning, Mayor Michael Signer of Charlottesville said President Trump missed the moment.
“He kind of had his opportunity and he whiffed,” the Mayor said “and I think that speaks for itself.”
