Clemson holds Tuesday practice at Jervey Meadows

CLEMSON, S.C. (WOLO) – Clemson football returned to work for the first time following Saturday’s scrimmage at Jervey Meadows outside of Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

It was the 10th practice of fall camp for the defending national champions.

“We have done this the last few years to give our practice fields a rest and have a little change for the team during these long days of practice,” said Head Coach Dabo Swinney.   The Tigers will continue to work there on Wednesday andThursday.  The team will scrimmage in the stadium on Saturday.  All practices are closed to the public.

The Tigers will have a situation scrimmage on Wednesday morning.  “Wednesday will be  a day that we will run plays on first-and-10, third-and-one, coming out from the end zone, all kinds of situations.”

One of the things Swinney will be looking for on Wednesday is improvement from the offense.  “The offense took a while to get moving today.   I was disappointed.  There were too many dropped balls.  The offense did not push through (the heat) like the defense did.  It just was not a good day.

“But we have a quick turnaround with practice in the morning, so there will be another opportunity to improve quickly.”

Swinney said that Ray-Ray McCloud continues to work on both sides of the ball as a receiver and cornerback, but the majority of his time is at receiver.  “Few have the ability to help on both sides of the ball, but Ray-Ray does.  He is a rare athlete.”

Swinney also said that graduate  offensive lineman Patrick Godfrey had been added to the list of scholarship players on the 2017 team.  “Patrick is quite a young man.  He came here with a lot of credit hours and graduated in just two years.  He is now in graduate school and will leave here with an undergraduate degree and masters.  He is a great teammate and we were glad to give him a scholarship.”
