Three Charged for Trafficking Meth in Stolen Car

Kershaw County, SC (WOLO) — Three people accused of trafficking methamphetamine in what police say was a stolen car are behind bars.

Kerhsaw Investigators say 33 year old Michael Dotson, 26 year old Kayla Koumas and 31 year old Maurice Williams have been taken into custody after leading police on a short car and foot chase.

Authorities say the incident took place early Wednesday morning after a 2016 Toyota Camry, left running in the parking lot of the Pilot Truck Stop along US 601 was stolen. Authorities say witnesses identified Dotson as the man who stole the car, investigators later spotted during a suspected shoplifting incident in the Town of Elgin.

According to Deputies, once they tried to stop the vehicle fitting the description of the one stolen earlier that day, the driver refused to stop and began leading police on a chase. Authorities say they witnesses objects being thrown out of the window during the pursuit.

Investigators say Dotson and Williams slowed down and jumped from the car before it crashed into a parked vehicle and fled on foot. The third suspect, Koumas was still in the car as Deputies apprehended the two men.

Investigators discovered just under 20 grams of meth, a small amount of marijuana and 4 hundred dollars in cash inside the abandoned car.

All three suspects are currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
