Jobless rate holds steady in July, below 4 percent
The unemployment rate remained unchanged from June to July, according to the latest report from the S.C. DEW
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The unemployment rate remained unchanged from June to July, according to the latest report from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
However, DEW said year to year, the number of people with jobs rose almost 41,000.
The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate held steady at 3.9 percent – DEW said the last time it was below 4 percent was in November 2000.
“While we are pleased to see the unemployment rate drop below 4 percent, we realize there are many families that recently have been affected by layoffs,” said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of DEW. “South Carolina’s economy is strong, and businesses are hiring, as indicated by the nearly 60,000 jobs currently available across the state.”
Nationally, the unemployment rate decreased from 4.4 percent in June to 4.3 percent in July.
