Midlands Maker Ages Wine for Decade to Mark Solar Eclipse
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A winemaker in Lexington County is debuting a ten-year-old wine during the Total Solar Eclipse.
Shannon Mercer, of Mercer House Estate Winery, said ‘Lucille’, named after his grandmother, is a white wine made from Muscadine grapes.
The winery’s special event for the eclipse Monday is sold out – Mercer said he expects somewhere around 450 attendees, including his volunteers. Mercer said he’s been fielding calls from out-of-state visitors for weeks.
After the excitement fades away, the next big item on Mercer’s to-do list is harvesting grapes. He said he’s looking for volunteers who can commit to a two to three week period.
